This album is Mastered for iTunes. Just as North Hollywood Shootout tightened up the Blues Traveler sound for a radio-friendly approach, so does Suzie Cracks The Whip provide hooks and concise pop tunes that were once presented in a looser context in the old days. Producer Sam Hollander (Katy Perry, Gym Class Heroes, Kelly Rowland) keeps the sound bright and on message, highlighting the group's ability to cruise, courtesy of an underrated rhythm section. There are no extraneous notes, unless you count John Popper's wild man harmonica runs. American Idol runner-up Crystal Bowersox duets on the harmonica-organ-guitar blow-out "I Don't Wanna Go." There's an upbeat funk and a sharp guitar solo to "Devil In the Details." "You Don't Have To Love Me" centers on a perfect chorus that recalls the band's landmark hit single "Run Around" in all the best ways. "Love Is Everything (That I Describe)" is hushed and exciting, fulfilling its promise in under two and a half minutes.

Vintage Blues Traveler... (5 stars)
I honesty couldn't be happier with BT's newest album unless they performed it for me and my friends in my backyard. Popper is on-point and the entire band sounds enthusiastic. Lemme put it this way: this is the very first rating/user-review I've submitted on iTunes. Ever. That's how excited I am about the new album.

What a great album. Blues Traveler at their best. So many great songs - my favorite "I Don't Wanna Go" - but hard to pick one out the bunch. Highly recommend.

A New York-based blues-rock quartet formed in 1988 by singer/harmonica player John Popper, guitarist Chan Kinchla, bassist Bobby Sheehan, and drummer Brendan Hill, Blues Traveler were part of a revival of the extended jamming style of '60s and '70s groups like the Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin. Signed to A&M, they released their first album, Blues Traveler, in May 1990 and followed it with Travelers & Thieves in September 1991.
