Ruins – GrouperCustomer ReviewsA Study In Sparsity (5 stars)With Ruins Grouper showcases her dead-on use of space to rigidly control for the wistful, self-harmonized chords she so often makes use of. It's deceptively sad music, like much of her output, but there are hints of a flame among the decay that sets the vast majority of the album's tone. At once featherweight and oppressive, this is another fine record from a woman who bathes the cold horrors of our lives in a soft light. Liz, oh (5 stars) “maybe you were right when you said i've never been in love; but how can I explain why its safer when I feel loved?” one of the greatest songwriters in my mind. I replay her albums over and over. Specifically I can remember feeling that they all had a similar sound and that even though that sound was beautiful, she had overused it. but seriously, listen to “come softly” with headphones beneath a starry night.
