So glad these tracks are finally collected. Paused for a look (3 stars) I had my heart set on a completely new album, but this will do. Feels like a warm hug from an old friend. Best. Table Scraps. Ever. (5 stars) When a band produces an album of B Sides, Remixes and Outtakes, it often suggests that they're simply taking a break from new material but still want to cash in in their table scraps. Granted, they usually have some choice cuts mixed in, but they're few and far between. Belle & Sebastian's table scraps, on the other hand have been compiled into one of the best albums of the year; a true testament to how great this band is. But precious can be a damning word, and Belle & Sebastian don't have the negative qualities that the word connotes: they are private but not insular, pretty but not wimpy; they make gorgeous, delicate melodies sound full-bodied.
